Mudcat: Not Taking it Any More, was inspired by a 2021 article in the Washington Post by Kevin Blackstone about Jim “Mudcat” Grant’s anthem protest (and the backlash) before a game in 1960. I was drawn to Grant’s story because in contrast to Collin Kaepernick’s protest, it was the racist agitator who would soon leave the sport, while Grant would go on to have a legendary career.
